The USGenWeb® Project is committed to providing FREE access to curated geneaological and reference resources
for all counties in every state. This project would not be possible without a dedicated team of volunteers to help manage over 3100 county websites.
Do you have family history in a Delaware county, or a county in another state? Or do you have knowledge of
or access to your county's local resources? If so, we need you! Please consider volunteering to adopt a county today!
What does a County Coordinator do?
As a County Coordinator you will:
- Update and manage a county website. Some knowledge
of basic HTML is useful. USGenWeb® has resources, templates
and members who can help you get started and answer questions.
- Respond to researcher emails. You may not know the
answer to their question, but we ask you to promptly acknowledge their
emails and provide some friendly advice and words of encouragement to
all who are trying to locate their ancestors. The personal touch is
what makes us stand apart from the big subscription-based genealogy
providers.
- Accept, publish, and curate donations. Consider all
donations of transcriptions, indexes, finding aids, or other facts that
are not subject to US copyright law. Contributed materials are what
makes our Project sites valuable to researchers.
- Transcribe and publish resources. Consider sharing
any resources you have access to, such as obituaries or general county
information.
- Join the state project mailing list. You can keep
up with news, ask questions, request help, and connect with other members.
County Project Requirements
We have a small number of basic requirements for our member websites:
- Display the State project's logo on your website landing page with
a link to the state's landing page.
- Display the USGenWeb logo on your website landing page that links
back to https://www.usgenweb.org/.
- List your name as the County Coordinator on your website landing page
with a link to your email address or a working contact webform.
- Keep your links updated. Broken links don't help researchers and reflect
poorly on our entire project.
- Ask the State Coordinator of the project you join to find out if they
have additional website requirements.
